Well, no, it's too much of a nerf. I think 1-3 DDs aren't a real problem, but I'm also certain that 14 DDs are; I want some kind of stacking penalty for them, to reduce the effectiveness of each DD after the first. Diminishing returns. The module's stacking penalty would be too steep IMO; I'd imagine the balance like this: after the 3-4th DD battleships wouldn't be at much risk from further DDs (logistics), but light support would be fried even if it's the 6-8th DD.
The EW part is just and addition for this, because I kinda like the idea of additional EW effects for DDs. Nothing overpowered, just some flavour. Some lasting EW effect of the DDs could also balace "pre-doomsdaying"; this would happen when a titanpilot DDs a more or less empty grid to create the "stacking-penalitized" field, effectivly denying the enemy titan's DD. Problem is, this also could put the defenders to a better position; a lasting EW effect in the "tainted" grid could balance this (warp disruption, sensor dampening, etc...), so a defending FC would have to choose between his fleet's and POS's effectivness or weaker enemy DDs. The EW effect could also increase with each additional DD. This adds tactical variety.
Hope it's is a little clearer. Feedback (the constructive kind) is very much appreciated.
I have my doubts on stacking being a serious option, for a very simple and sad reason :/ I was speaking with a guy who builds titans for his alliance, and he made a comment which basically said it all: "hey, even if they introduce stacking, my bosses will just tell me to build more so we can work around that".
So you the core of the problem here. Players are insane.
I'd take a different angle tbh. Titans are like nuclear weapons, except they cause zero fallout so there is zero reason to think about using them twice.
Why not capitalise on that human element? Picture the following:
Primary damage output: as is, no change.
For the same reasons as you mention.
Secondary damage output: base Heat damage to all objects in space, chance based aggravated heat damage, system wide to all objects in space.
Just as an aggravation, to make the masses of people who cry for titan deployments for added "security" (while they already have 500 friendlies in system) also feel a bit of pain. It is not a big thing, since everybody in 0.0 should have high trained skills to cope with this, but it adds a bit of aggravation.
Tertiary damage output: accumulative pain, doomsdays tear space/time apart, beyond the threshold critical systems that depend on the normal state of space start to lose functionality in an unpredictable manner, at high risk are all unshielded POS structures, lesser risk for Control Towers and Station Services.
There are wild persistent yet unconfirmed rumors floating around which surfaced after a newsflash on a mad scientist going missing after a mad press release on a paper concerning the relations between station structural integrity and the phenomenon known as ôoverkill doomsday falloutö.
Another angle for the drama of Titans operating under cynojammers and all that could be building on the old storyline of the first Titans of the Empires, which were so massive that they'd wreck moons and planets they passed by. Well, our Titans are smaller, so they wouldn't do that, but cumulative effects might be something. We could think of a treshold where there would be a limit to titans in a system for sovereignty structures would be able to operate, go above that limit and your fancy sovereignty stuff starts to break down, starting with the jammer, bridges, pos defences, station services, etc.
Just an idea. But it does revolve around making us think twice before we shoot ourselves in the foot. Titans/Doomsdays would come at a real cost/pain. |
